Abstract

Japanese electronics output increased by an estimated 4.0% in 2006 and followed a decline of 4.0% in the prior year. Similar to the US and countries in Western Europe , Japan is being impacted by the migration of production to low-cost locations. By the end of 2006, electronics output had fallen by 23.5% from the peak in 2000.

Consumer electronics, once the mainstay of the Japanese electronics industry, continues to lose share as Japanese manufacturers shift production to low cost countries in the Far East . In 1985 consumer products accounted for 23% of total output but this had fallen to 11% in 2006. The sector, however, has benefited from the move to digital products. Mainland China – Model 698B portable DVD player from Shenzhen Zhongkenuo Digital Technology Co. Ltd supports TV channel reception. It is embedded with HDCD PCM and MPEG digital audio decoding chips, enabling it to copy and record MP3/4 and CD file formats directly onto a USB flash drive or MS/MMC/SD memory cards.

The shock-resistant model comes with a foldable TFT LCD screen that rotates up to 270 degrees and a built-in speaker. It supports digital photo playback and zoom.

A rechargeable Li-ion battery powers the device.

Mainland China – Zhongshan Winstar Electrical Co. Ltd has released model DA-168, an HDTV antenna that supports channels 2 to 13 on the 45 to 230MHz VHF band, channels 14 to 69 on the 470 to 860MHz UHF band and 88 to 108MHz FM frequency.

The 285x100x215mm model has 75ohm output impedance. It requires 110 to 120 or 220 to 240VAC input voltage and 200mA working current at 12VDC voltage. Its typical amplifier gain in VHF is 30dB and 36dB on UHF. It comes with a built-in high gain booster and gain control.

Taiwan – Tekxon Technolgy Inc. has launched model V7300HD, an high-definition digital video camera that supports 1280x720 pixel resolution (progressive scan) at 30fps recording. The HD digital video camera is equipped with a 2.7in widescreen LCD that is rotatable at up to 270 degrees. It supports up to 8MP still image resolution and up to 32GB SD memory card.

The CE- and FCC-approved V7300HD comes with an HDTV interface.

Tekxon’s minimum order requirement for the V7300HD is 100 units.

Mainland China – Hong Kong Meike Digital Technology Co. Ltd's digital camera battery grip is suitable for use with Canon EOS 300D and Nikon camera models. The product is made from polycarbonate materials with 10 percent GF. it comes with a vertical short shutter and half-press focus buttons and a main vice-wheel. It accommodates eight AA and EL3aE batteries or one EL4a lithium battery. A BL-3 adapter is required when using EL3a or EL4 batteries.

Taiwan – Global Camera Manufacturer Corp. has released model GFP-001, 35mm film and slide scanner with support for up to 3,600dpi optical resolution. The digital film and slide image copier scans in color and monochrome. It has instant preview function and up to 0.5s scanning speed.

The device has 1-button scanning and 2-way holder transferring. It also has USB 2.0 interface. A bundled GUI interface comes with the product.

Mainland China – Focus Products Co. has introduced the HD10AAF/HD9AF, a 5MP HD digital video camera that uses an F2.4 liquid auto-focus lens.

The HDHC-compatible unit runs on a Li-ion battery, It consumes <1mw>

Hong Kong – Wang Hing Cyberworks Ltd's Ai-Like HDDV HD-S1 high-definition digital video camera features LED front lights for nighttime video recording. It records videos at 1,280x720(30fps) and 848x480(60fps), and captures still images at 3,264x2448 and 2,592x1,944 pixels.

Measuring 97.4x54.9x22.7mm, the Ai-Like HDDV HD-S1 features a 5MP CMOS sensor, HDMI and composite output, 2.5in LTPS TFT LCD, 4x digital zoom and 32MB internal flash memory. It supports up to 32GB SDHC memory cards and USB 2.0 high-speed data transfer. A 1GB SD card can store approximately 30 minutes of HD video and one hour of WVGA video.

Taiwan – U-Way Corp. has released the WIIBC-028, USB twin charger for the Wii remote and battery pack. The model supports multicharging methods of direct USB connection and 5VDC input.

The device features protection from overcharging. It also has protection from overheating and short-circuit.

The WIIBC-028 has dual-LED indicators. It measures 123x90x55mm and its housing is made from ABS. USB cable length is 1.2m.

Mainland China – Shanghai Kingstronic Co. Ltd has released its K-DF90T digital photo frame featuring a 9in TFT LCD with 16:9 aspect ratio.

Taiwan – Advance Vision Electronics Co. Ltd has released model GPS-50-03, a car GPS receiver that operates on 850/900/1800/1900MHz quad-band GSM and GPRS class 10 networks.

The AGPS- and GSM/SMS/GPRS-enabled device features 10,000 GeoFence locations and plots areas using GPS points or GSM cell IDs. It is built in with an LCD and a data logger that records up to 250,000 location points. An onboard memory extends storage up to 10,000 location points. Real-time location tracking and monitoring is supported.

The water-resistant model comes with quick-dial buttons that store four preset phone numbers, an emergency button and low power and vibrating functions. It supports remote command and configuration via USB, SMS or GPRS.

Mainland China – Dongguan Superstring Electronics Co. Ltd has released model 892, a single-DIN in-car DVD player that features a 7in in-dash TFT-LCD with OSD, which doubles as a rearview camera monitor.

The shock-resistant model comes with an AM/FM radio that has up to 30 preset channels and supports automatic channel scanning. It plays back DVD/VCD/MP3/CD/CD-R/CD-RW formats and is compatible with PAL and NTSC systems. Its interface panel consists of A/V I/O, USB and SD card ports. Measuring 150x180x80mm, the model is made of PU and cotton cloth. It runs on three AA batteries.

Hong Kong – Wang Hing Cyberworks Ltd has released model ID-01-NV, an iPod docking station with video out. The product adopts a user-friendly design and is compatible with all iPod video, nano, classic, iPhone and iTouch devices.

The dock can display photos or videos on a TV or other video device using an A/V cable. It can also connect to the computer, sync the iPod and charge its battery.

The user can control playback from a distance using the wireless remote control.

Mainland China – Masda Antenna Appliance Co. Ltd has released model MS516KT, a satellite multiswitch that has five input and 16 output interfaces.

The device comes with a level adjuster. It supports 950 to 2150MHz. It operates on 100 to 240VAC, 50/60Hz power supply.
